30-Day #Horror Movie Challenge: Your favorite vampire movie...Bram Stoker's Dracula

Tagline: Love Never Dies

Synopsis: Count Dracula, a 15th-century prince, is condemned to live off the blood of the living for eternity. Young lawyer Jonathan Harker is sent to Dracula's castle to finalise a land deal, but when the Count sees a photo of Harker's fiancée, Mina, the spitting image of his dead wife, he imprisons him and sets off for London to track her down. My favorite vampire movie...Bram Stoker's Dracula

I'm going with a nostalgic favorite, and because...Gary Oldman.

I remember being so excited for this to release in 1992. A whole bunch of us went to see it. It was visually stunning, and Gary Oldman did a fantastic job (as always) as a menacing monster, and a charismatic, yet tragic figure. I love the beginning showing the, albeit short, origin story, tying the film's Dracula to Bram Stoker's inspiration, Vlad the Impaler. A fierce warrior who loved a woman so much, he renounced God and became a monster for all eternity. And monster he is, though I was happy the writer also chose to show a sympathetic side to the character. Adding to all of this is an excellent cast including Anthony Hopkins as an over the top Van Helsing, Winona Ryder, Sadie Frost, Keanu Reeves, Cary Elwes, and Richard E. Grant. This is another film I can watch over and over. I've seen it many, many times over the years. It never gets old.

  1. I loved Gary Oldman so much as Dracula that I've only watched the ending once. All the other times I've rewatched it over the years, I stop it before you-know-what-happens.

    1. Yeah, I get it. It affects me the same. See what a great job they did making Dracula a more sympathetic character? :)

  2. Definitely one of my favorites. I have a great memory connected with this movie: It came out when I was in high school. I had to leave school at about noon for an orthodontics appointment, which my mom drove me to. The appointment, way across town, took probably ten minutes. Since we were right next to a shopping mall, my mom asks, "What to go see Dracula?" (I was a good student and my teachers were okay with my missing for appointments, so it's not *too* bad...)

    1. That's so cool! Yeah, my parents were like that, and my teachers. I was a good student so it wasn't a big deal if I missed...they knew I would make it up.

  3. I watched this one a later after it came out. And I didn't like it as much as I was hoping. But it was fun in a lot of places and Gary Oldman elevates everything!
