Frightful Fall Read-a-Thon: Updates and Mini-Challenges

THIS IS A STICKY POST FOR READ-A-THON UPDATES--PLEASE SCROLL DOWN FOR NEW CONTENT. THANKS!

October 9 update:
Books read since last update
Invisible Sun by S.J. Davis (142 pages)
Currently Reading
The Forest of Hands and Teeth by Carrie Ryan (hoping to finish today)
Up Next
Decayed Etchings by Brandon Ford (hoping to get partially into it, at least)
Total pages read during read-a-thon:  529
Total books read during read-a-thon:  2 (really 1.75...since I finished Name of the Wind, but it's a really long book!)

Mini-Challenges
Here is my entry for Julie's (Knitting and Sundries) mini-challenge...make a frighful sentence out of book titles.  I am limited on what I could take a picture of since two of my books were/are eBooks, but here goes.  Note: the eBooks are not in the pic, but their titles are Invisible Sun and Decayed Etchings.  I added a couple words to make it more plausible.

The name of the wind and the forest of hands and teeth are decayed etchings on the invisible sun.

Sherri's (Urban Girl Reader) mini-challenge--write a fake summary for the "next book" in the series.

Fake summary for the "sequel" to Invisible Sun by S.J. Davis:

Astrid is now foster mother to the first female vampire born in a long time.  Without Luca by her side, she's not sure how this new world will be.  All she knows is that she must keep the baby safe from harm.  For she is the key to the future of everything and everyone.

Julie's (My Book Retreat) mini-challenge:  Halloween costume of book character

Book:  Invisible Sun by S.J. Davis
Character: Lady Astrid
Costume:  Victorian prostitute
Reason:  Astrid is always trying to blend in among the street people so as to better do her good deeds.  She would never be able to wear this costume to a society party, but she would wear it when visiting the East End.

October 5 update:
Books read
The Name of the Wind--387 pages (finished)
Currently Reading
The Forest of Hands and Teeth by Carrie Ryan
Up Next
Decayed Etchings by Brandon Ford
Invisible Sun by S.J. Davis

Mini-Challenge from Melissa at Must Read Faster
Instructions
**Look to the left...the first item that you see is your only weapon during the Zombie Apocalypse*** (Don't cheat and try to find something cool! If the first thing you see are socks then that's what you got!)  If you can, post a picture..just for the extra lolz.

Here's mine:
Okay, here's what I would do.  Cram the smaller remote in the zombie's gaping mouth whilst beating it about the head with the larger remote.  Squirt the (generic) Carmex in its eyes and waft the open bottle of nail polish under its nose to confuse its sense of smell.  Will this buy me some time?  Perhaps.  Will I survive?  The 8 Ball says...not likely!

October 3 starting line:

Currently Reading
The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss...have to finish this for TuesBookTalk on Tuesday.
Up Next...scary reading!
Decayed Etchings by Brandon Ford

  3. Great sentence for my mini-challenge! (I'm getting ready to post my own pic there!) You're doing great! I got sidetracked with The Night Circus, even though it wasn't on my list, BUT it still rather fits the theme (magic and such is going on!), so I'm just going to add it in!
