2022 I Read Horror Year-Round Reading Challenge - Wrap-up

Year two of I Read Horror is done and dusted. How did you do? Once again, I don't think I quite completed the Chilling level (which is 12 books in a year), but let me list the categories below and see how I stacked up...
  • Book by a BIPOC (female) - Certain Dark Things, Silvia Moreno-Garcia
  • Book by a BIPOC (male) - The Only Good Indians, Stephen Graham Jones
  • Folk Horror - Winterset Hollow, Jonathan Edward Durham
  • A Gothic horror classic (published 50 or more years ago, published no later than 1972) - The Marble Faun, Nathaniel Hawthorne
  • A modern Gothic tale (published within 50 years ago, published 1973 or later) - Fireside Gothic, Andrew Taylor
  • Purple, orange, or green on the cover - The Devil in Silver, Victor LaValle
  • Serial killer from the past - fiction or non-fiction (before 20th century) Examples: Jack the Ripper, H.H. Holmes, Burke and Hare (I started The Devil in the White City by Erik Larson, but have not finished yet.)
  • Short story collection/Anthology
  • Slasher
  • Vampires - Impact Winter, Travis Beacham
  • Werewolves
  • Witches - In the House in the Dark of the Woods, Laird Hunt
So, I didn't do too badly. Managed to finish 9 out of 12.

How about you? Share your wrap-up in the comments, or link to a wrap-up post on your blog (or social media, shelf on Goodreads, etc.).

In case you missed it, sign up for I Read Horror YR 2023 is open. Here's the link to the post.

I Read Horror Year-Round - Last quarter check-in and wrap-up for 2021

Well, the first year of I Read Horror YR is a wrap. So how did you do? I don't think I quite completed the category I set out for, but let me list the categories below and see how I stacked up...
  • Winter theme, or winter appearance on the cover (snow, ice, etc.) - The Ascent, Ronald Malfi
  • Ghosts or spirits - Come With Me, Ronald Malfi
  • Psychological - Behind Her Eyes, Sarah Pinborough
  • Monster or monsters
  • A body of water (featured in story, on cover, or in title) - Cradle Lake, Ronald Malfi
  • Really scary book cover
  • Woman on cover - Mexican Gothic, Silvia Moreno-Garcia
  • Written by a woman - The Witch's Trinity, Erika Mailman
  • Written by a best-selling horror author -
  • Written by an indie author - August's Eyes, Glenn Rolfe
  • Historical horror - The Historian, Elizabeth Kostova
  • Folk horror - Bone White, Ronald Malfi
Not bad at all! I was going for the Chilling level which is 12 books in a year. Only two shy so I'll take it.

How about you? Share your wrap-up in the comments, or link to a wrap-up post on your blog (or social media, shelf on Goodreads, etc.).

Spring into Horror Read-a-Thon Wrap-Up

Well, the read-a-thon has come to an end.  I hope you all accomplished the goals you set out for yourselves.  Even if you didn't meet your goals (that's okay, too!), I hope above all else that you had fun.  I did not do so hot, but I'm happy with what I got read and I enjoyed the social aspect so much.  In my opinion, having no mini-challenges on the host blog really left us more time to read and interact with other bloggers.  What did you think?  Did you like focusing more on the reading this time?  Let me know in the comments.

We did have some awesome mini-challenges and prizes organized by the wonderful Erin at Oh, For the Hook of a Book.  I'd like to thank her for all her hard work and to also thank the authors for their generosity.  I'd also like to thank the most excellent Krista at Book Review Club for hosting the giveaway of MaryLynn Bast's book, No Remorse.  And thank you to MaryLynn for donating her book.  You guys really helped me out a lot and I really appreciate it!

Also, I must not forget the generous authors who donated prizes for the big read-a-thon giveaway.  A big shout out to Tiffane Messer, J.L. Murphey, and Melanie McDonald! Thank you so much.  You all rock!

So, my final stats are as follows:

Total Books Read: One complete book (Ghost Story), 1/4 of The Catcher in the Rye, 115 pages of Bleak House, and 10 pages of A Clash of Kings
Total Pages Read: 694
Books Read Since Last Update: 1/3 of Ghost Story
Pages Read since last update:  334

How did you do?  Place the link to your wrap-up post in the linky at the end of the post (or your final update from Facebook, etc.).  You have until Tuesday morning, 5/1, at 10am CST to complete your wrap-up in order to be eligible for the big giveaway.

I am now looking ahead to the second annual High Summer Read-a-Thon, which I will be hosting at The True Book Addict , probably around mid to late July.  I hope you all will consider joining me again.

Frightful Fall Read-a-Thon: Wrap-Up, Winners, and a Thank You

The Frightful Fall Read-a-Thon has ended. *sniffle*  I think this was the funnest read-a-thon I've hosted thus far.  Not that I got much reading done, but I just LOVE hosting.  I had so many enthusiastic participants and contributors.  I know I host seasonal read-a-thons four times a year so it's a no-brainer that I will host again next year, but I've decided to make the Frightful Fall Read-a-Thon an annual event.  However, to match the hashtag we used this year on Twitter, I'm going to change the name to FrightFall Read-a-Thon.  Wish I would have thought of it for this one.  Oh well, it will keep until next year!

***If you completed a wrap-up post and would like to share, please post the link to your post in the comments.  I will stop by and visit!***

So, what did I get read this time?

The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss (this was a finish up--387 pages)
Invisible Sun by S.J. Davis (142 pages)
The Forest of Hands and Teeth by Carrie Ryan (60 pages)
Total pages read during read-a-thon:  589

Total books read during read-a-thon:  2.25 (really 1.75...since I finished Name of the Wind, but it's a really long book!)

Stay tuned for my winter read-a-thon in January and, if you're a fan of Christmas, I will once again be hosting my annual Christmas Reading Challenge via my Christmas blog, The Christmas Spirit.  It will run from the week of Thanksgiving throught Epiphany/Twelfth Night.  Details and sign-ups will be coming soon.  Until then, I'll be seeing you around the myriad read-a-thons going on around the blogosphere because I, for one, cannot resist a read-a-thon!

Frightful Fall Read-a-Thon: Wrap Up Coming Tomorrow

It's late and I'm SO tired! I will have the wrap-up post up some time tomorrow with winners of the mini-challenges and the last day's participant giveaway.  I hope everyone had fun.  I certainly enjoyed hosting and am looking forward to my next one!
