15 years of Castle Macabre, a (somewhat) new direction, and save the date

As everyone knows, horror is my jam! I've always read horror, but several years ago, I was focusing more on historical fiction. But I could not silence the call of horror and it is now mainly what I read, and write. Yes, I'm writing a horror novel!

Which brings me to the topic of the new direction I mentioned above. Castle Macabre is now my main hub for my writing journey as well. I will share updates on my writing, and I plan to get more frequent in my horror-centric posts in general. Oh, and I've started a YouTube channel as a companion to this blog, and my writing and horror journey. My first video is not up yet, but I hope to begin filming soon. Stay tuned!

A big thank you to all the horror lovers out there, authors and readers alike! Also, thank you for following this little corner of the horror universe. It means more than you will ever know.

Here's to many more years of horror!

Save the date for Something Wicked Fall, which runs through September and October, it kicks off on September 1st. I will have the kick off post live with all the info, and the reading schedule for our folk horror themed read-along of Adam Nevill's Last Days that day. The FrightFall Readathon, hosted over at my readathon blog, Seasons of Reading starts on October 1st. Sign up for that event will be posted by mid-September on the Seasons of Reading blog.

I hope you will join us!

Castle Macabre is 13 today...and update on Something Wicked Fall

I have always been a horror reader, but around the time of this blog's inception, I was reading more historical fiction than anything else. A lot has changed since then and horror has once again become the forefront of my reading passion. Back to my roots, I would say...since horror was the genre I mainly read when I started reading adult fiction as a preteen. I also write horror and I'm currently working on my first horror novel.

Anyway, A big thank you to everyone who follows/reads the blog, and to those who participate in events and reading challenges. Here's to many more years of horror!

Update on Something Wicked Fall

The votes were counted and our Stephen King read-along winner was Fairy Tale. I'll have the reading schedule for you in the kickoff post on September 1st. Here's the updated event graphic...

Happy Blog Birthday, Castle Macabre and Save the Date! #SomethingWickedFall

One day late, but yesterday was the anniversary of 10 years of blogging here at Castle Macabre. Wow! Ten years of horror goodness. I've so enjoyed this journey, and the branch off from my founding/sister blog, True Book Addict. It has been great getting know those who are just as passionate about horror as I am. Here's to many more years of all things murder and mayhem. Long live horror! 💀👹👿

Save the date! Coming up September/October is our FOURTH year for Something Wicked Fall AND, as always, we have the annual FrightFall Readathon all month long in October. SO excited! Stay tuned for the official event post for Something Wicked Fall by the end of the month, along with the read-along schedule for The Blood Countess. The FrightFall sign-up will be posted at Seasons of Reading in September.

Doctor Sleep #Read-Along - Week One #SomethingWickedFall

Okay, so this read-along is going to be hard! I'm going to have to force myself not to read ahead. This is the first SK book in a while that has grabbed me immediately, and really makes me want to keep reading. Granted, I haven't read any of his newer offerings yet, and have yet to read some of his older ones (scandalous, I know...so many books, so little time), but I'm thrilled that I'm enjoying this one so much...so far.

I guess it was inevitable that Danny would inherit his father's alcoholism, though I think he's fighting stronger demons than his father was. I can't imagine someone seeing the things he sees. It was good that he had Dick Halloran around to help him when he was still young, and that Dick's wisdom stays with him, though he doesn't always heed the advice/warnings in his head.

The True Knot are an interesting group, and scary. The woman with the top hat may be beautiful, but she scares me nonetheless. Can't wait to find out what nefarious plans she has for Danny, and others. I saw the new preview for the movie yesterday before IT: Part Two came on (great movie, by the way) and it looks like it's going to be really good. Ewan McGregor...swoon! It gave away some details that I now know are coming in the book, involving a certain someone.

Share your thoughts on this week's section in the comments, or leave a link to a post. We'll be back next week for the next section. If you need the reading schedule, find it here.

Read on for some other business...

We are planning two or three movie watch-alongs during Something Wicked Fall. Someone mentioned watching The Shining for one of them. What do you think? Weigh-in in the comments.

Castle Macabre had another birthday, and I missed it! As of August 15, 2019, we've been on the web for 8 years! In honor of this blogiversary, I created a new blog button. Check it out in the sidebar.

Castle Macabre celebrates 7 years! #blogiversary #giveaway

Seven frightening years of (mostly) horror! Wow! I know this sister blog of True Book Addict is not quite as prolific, but it is no less dear to my heart. I've discovered some great horror authors since starting this blog and I'm looking forward to discovering more...and continuing on with more from my favorites. You know who you are!

In recognition of seven awesome years of scary, and to thank you for your friendship and loyalty, I'm hosting a little giveaway. I'm giving you a chance at winning any horror book (Kindle format) on Amazon (under $5). Looking for recommendations? Click that Book Reviews tab in the menu at the top. I've read some really good ones, especially in the last year. All you have to do is leave me a comment telling me a horror book you've read that you could not put down. Don't forget to leave your email address so I can contact the winner. (Anyone who does not leave an email address will not be entered. If you're afraid of a bot stealing it, enter it like so: truebookaddict AT gmail DOT com) This giveaway will end on September 15th at 12 midnight central time.

Good luck...and thanks for sharing the horror!
