Spring into Horror Read-a-Thon--Starting Line

It's time! Are you ready?  I certainly am! This is the official starting line post for the read-a-thon.  Be sure to sign in here, at the beginning or when you start reading.  Remember, you do not have to have a blog to join us.  You can sign in linking to Facebook, Twitter, Goodreads...wherever you will be updating from.  And you don't have to start at the beginning.  Start on any day this week, or if you're working all week, join us for the weekend.  People can sign in up until Friday night at 11:59pm CST.  I'll be stopping by and visiting you so I hope you will have your book piles/reading lists posted. *hint hint*  Remember to include at least one scary book (horror, paranormal, mystery, etc.).

Join us on Twitter using the hashtag #SpringHorrorRAT  Who knows.  We might even have some reading sprints on Twitter throughout the week.  There won't be any prizes if/when we do, but you will get bragging rights.  Just remember to have fun this week.  Again, my read-a-thon credo is "a week of relaxed reading during which we can personally challenge ourselves and whittle away those ever looming TBR piles/shelves/libraries."  I have done away with mini-challenges so we can focus more on the reading, but please do stop by and visit your fellow read-a-thon-ers if you get a chance...and again, we will also be on Twitter for social interaction.  =O)

The prize and giveaway page is HERE (or it can be accessed from the link at the top of the blog post section).  Check out the awesome prizes which were donated and the giveaway details.  We also have giveaways being hosted by fellow bloggers/RAT participants:

Erin at Oh, For the Hook of a Book is hosting some easy mini-challenges and giving away 11 books this week! Check out the details at her blog HERE.  Thank you, Erin!

What I'll be reading this week, or in other words, my overly ambitious reading list:

My scary titles:
Ghost Story by Peter Straub
Decayed Etchings by Brandon Ford
My Mother She Killed Me, My Father He Ate Me: Forty New Fairy Tales

Other titles:
Bleak House by Dickens (playing read-a-long catch-up)
Forever Amber by Kathleen Winsor (still trying to finish)
The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger (last 70 or so pages for TuesBookTalk)
Never Say Sorry by Rose Edmunds
Graceling by Kristin Cashore

Tonight I'm going to work on catching up on A Clash of Kings by George R.R. Martin (after I take my shower).  Burning the midnight oil!

  1. Ready to go!! And don't forget to stop by my blog for more activities, chatter, and giveaways.

    Can't wait to meet everyone.

  2. I have Ghost Story on my private reading shelf. I've been dying to get to it - but you know how that goes!!! I've heard scary things. Can't wait to see what you think.

  3. I'm gonna shoot for finishing up Soulless today then move on to the scary stuff! ;)

  4. I am ready and looking forward to this week of horror.

  5. I am ready and looking forward to this horror week. I will try and read scary books that I don't usually read.

  6. Yay! I'm working today, but I should have a chance to finish my audiobook [Hunting Ground by Patricia Briggs]. I'll have to save my conventional book for reading at bedtime.

    Have fun, everyone!

  7. Looking forward to this week long of horror reading. Good luck everybody!!

  8. I am so ready for this!! =)

Thanks for putting it together Michelle! *hugs*

  9. I need to play catch-up for The Woman In White Read-Along I am participating in as well. Although, I plan on starting my book club selection next, William March's The Bad Seed. Thank you for putting this together Michelle!

  10. My list is made! I love that it wasn't at all challenging for me to find books that go along with the theme... perhaps my Hubs and friends have good cause to worry... ;)

  11. I have wanted to read Ghost Story for a while now too. Maybe I'll add that to the list.

  12. Thanks for having me HOST a giveaway super excited I have to start reading today, HARD choices out there but thankful for some inspiration that I might get with comments. King is always my first choice but I'm going to spice it up a little this time!

  13. Great idea - happy to hop on board.

  14. I am reading Ghost story as well :D

  15. A Game of Thrones will be on my reading list this week! It's so long, so I'm going to start that one on the weekend, instead of eating up the whole week. Good luck everyone!

  16. My starting post is up. I'm on vacation this week -- a road trip -- so I've already completed one book. It's not a scary book, but I had started it after supper yesterday and I really wanted to finish it and set it aside. And, I had only read 80 pages before I fell asleep last night, so I read *most* of it today.

  17. Super excited to start, I'm finishing up my second in a series called Blood and Whiskey it's 2nd to The Cowboy and the Vampire sooooo good lol :)

  18. And I'm in! I've already begun Hill House by Shirley Jackson and I'll be posting tidbits and excerpts to Twitter during the week. Looking forward to checking out what everyone's reading and getting some new suggestions!

  19. Michelle: Consider me slow, but I'm just joining in! Working is putting a big damper on being able to keep up with blogging and visiting, but I hope to get it sorted out soon! I'll be swinging back by tomorrow to explore a bit more! :)

  20. Well, I read my scary book on Monday and Tuesday (The Devil in the White City), but am just now coming on here to sign in. I was out of town until Tuesday night and slammed with work all day today. I'll probably do most of my updating on Twitter (@MyBookRetreat). I have a commitment to a book tour tomorrow on the blog.

  21. I finally got a chance to sign in. I am currently reading As I Die Lying by Scott Nicholson. So far, it is twisted. I am loving it. Hopefully I will get something up on the blog before long. Life has been a bit crazy around here this week, but tomorrow is another day...

    Happy Reading everyone!

  22. Almost done with catching fire I was reading up on all the drama the past few days. Mama Mia! It's everywhere!!

Are you scared? Tell me how much. But seriously, thank you for commenting. It means so much.

Please do not be offended, but this is an award free blog. Your kind visits and comments are award enough for me. Thanks!
