Year three of the challenge is complete! Once again, I tried for the Chilling level. Didn't quite make it, but only three books shy. Here's what I read:
- Book by BIPOC author - My Heart is a Chainsaw, Stephen Graham Jones
- Title with Dead, Blood, or Bone - The Dead Path, Stephen M. Irwin
- Horrific cover - The Vessel, Adam Nevill
- Set in the past - The Green Man, Kingsley Amis
- Folk Horror - The Loney, Andrew Michael Hurley
- Winter theme or cover - Subhuman, Michael McBride
- Black, red, or white cover - Black Mouth, Ronald Malfi
- Zombies, Witches, Vampires, or Werewolves - Dracul by Dacre Stoker and J.D. Barker (I LOVED this book!)
- Something by Poe - The Fall of the House of Usher (click the title to read my write up).
In case you missed it, sign up for I Read Horror YR 2024 is open. Here's the link to the post.
I hope you will join me again!
I went for Chilling level and missed it by one! D'oh!
ReplyDeleteBook by BIPOC author: Jackal by Erin E. Adams
Title with Dead, Blood, or Bone: The Luminous Dead by Caitlin Starling
Something by Poe: The Murders in the Rue Morgue by Edgar Allan Poe
Folk horror: Little Darlings by Melanie Golding
Written by a woman: Within These Wicked Walls by Lauren Blackwood
Black, red, or white cover: #Murdertrending by Gretchen McNeil
Zombies, Witches, Vampires, or Werewolves: Such Sharp Teeth by Rachel Harrison
Horrific cover: Nothing But Blackened Teeth by Cassandra Khaw
Winter theme or cover: The Ascent by Ronald Malfi
Fairy Tale Retelling (Oops Poe retelling): What Moves the Dead by T. Kingfisher
Debut horror: Together We Rot by Skyla Arndt
I guess technically WMTD doesn't count because it was a Poe retelling and not a fairy tale retelling but oh well. Didn't even know that and had it slotted for that category all year! lol
Not too shabby though! You know I'm not a huge stickler for rules so you're all good on the fairy tale category. :)

Great job! I love Moreno-Garcia's books. Bag of Bones is one of my most favorite King novels...I've read it twice. Hoping to reread The Witching Hour this year. Glad to have you joining us again for 2024!
